Reflection: When the church needed people to oversee the distribution of food, the
apostles did not look only for volunteers or organizers. They sought people of good
reputation, full of wisdom, and full of the Spirit. Spirit-filled character was not treated as
a qualification for an elite. It was the expected foundation for service. That challenges
the way you may evaluate yourself and others. It is easy to prize talent, reliability,
personality, and results while overlooking dependence upon God. Those abilities matter,
but they cannot replace spiritual maturity. It is easy to demand Spirit-filled leadership
from pastors while accepting self-reliance in your life. God’s calling is not limited to a
platform. Whether you prepare a meal, lead a meeting, care for a child, or encourage a
neighbor, your responsibilities can carry God’s presence. The question is not whether
your task appears spiritual, but whether you approach it filled with His Spirit.
Application Question: What ordinary responsibility could become an opportunity to
carry God’s presence if you approached it with greater prayer, wisdom, and
dependence?
