Reflection: The call to submission can sound like another command to try harder, but Peter brings you back to the cross. Jesus bore your sins in His body on the tree so that you might die to sin and live to righteousness. He did not suffer just to give you an example. He suffered to become your Savior. You have dishonored authority, demanded your own way, retaliated when wounded, and allowed pride to damage your witness. Jesus carried them and returned you to the Shepherd of your soul. Because you are forgiven, you can take one step of obedience without trying to earn God’s love. Write the respectful message. Apologize for the dishonoring comment. Pray for the supervisor you have criticized. Listen to your spouse without becoming defensive. Do not attempt everything today. Ask Jesus for the courage to take one step that makes His grace easier for someone else to see.

Application Question: What one visible act of obedience will help your conduct match your message today?
