Reflection: You know how quickly thirst changes what catches your attention. When you are exhausted, frightened, or disappointed, a promise can feel like water. Someone says you can guarantee healing, secure prosperity, or escape the hard parts of following Jesus. You want relief, so you lean closer.

Peter asks you to look beyond the promise. A spring can look inviting and still have nothing to give. A teacher can sound spiritual and still lead you away from Christ.

Your need is real. You do not have to pretend otherwise. But your need cannot decide whether a message is true. Before you accept the next reassuring claim, pause. Ask what it says about Jesus and whether it leads you toward trusting and obeying him.

Bring your thirst to Christ today. Tell him what you want. Ask him to help you recognize promises that cannot give the life you need. He hears you.

Application Question: What need or disappointment makes you especially receptive to a promise you have not carefully examined?
