Thursday: Discipleship in the Ordinary

Reflection: Deuteronomy 6 gives a simple picture of discipleship at home. Talk about God when you sit, walk, lie down, and rise. That means spiritual leadership is not limited to perfect family devotions, polished prayers, or having every answer. It often happens in the small moments: apologizing after impatience, praying before school, opening Scripture at dinner, talking about God’s faithfulness in the car, or helping a child connect daily life to the Lord. If you are a parent, grandparent, mentor, or trusted adult, do not underestimate ordinary faithfulness. Children and younger believers need more than provision; they need presence, example, and intentional love. If you feel regret over missed opportunities, remember that God’s grace is not finished with your story. Start where you are. Take one simple step today. A humble beginning with Christ is better than waiting for a perfect version of yourself first, or waiting until you feel ready for it.
