Reflection: Hospitality is misunderstood. You may think you practice it because friends
and family gather in your home. That is meaningful, but biblical hospitality reaches
beyond people who already belong in your circle. It moves toward the person standing
alone, the newcomer whose name no one remembers, or the family trying to discover
whether there is room for them. You do not need an impressive home, a spotless
kitchen, or an elaborate meal. You need an open life and willingness to make the first
move. Jesus consistently noticed people others passed by, and His table made room for
those society kept at a distance. Following Him means refusing to wait for disconnected
people to find their way into your comfortable relationships. Look around this week.
Someone near you may have been given a chair without ever experiencing belonging. A
simple invitation, cup of coffee, or unhurried conversation can begin changing that.
Application Question: Who currently sits near the edge of your church or social circle,
and what specific invitation could help that person experience genuine belonging?
