Reflection: Trials have a way of naming you if you are not careful. You can start to see yourself mainly as the person who was hurt, overlooked, rejected, exhausted, or afraid. Peter does not minimize suffering. He says believers are grieved by various trials. The fire is real. The pain matters. But the trial is not your identity. In the hands of your Father, the trial becomes a refining place. God may be exposing where comfort has become too important, where control has become too tight, or where approval has carried too much weight. That work is not punishment; it is mercy. Gold is tested by fire, and faith is tested through pressure. So do not only ask God to get you out; ask Him what He is forming in you while you are in it. You are not defined by the fire. You are being refined by the Father’s grace.
Application Question: In the trial or pressure you are facing right now, what might God be revealing, reshaping, or strengthening in you?
