Reflection: Peter had an experience few believers have. He saw Jesus transfigured. He heard God speak from heaven. Yet after describing that moment, Peter pointed his readers to something they could hold onto too: the prophetic Word. You may never hear an audible voice from heaven, but you have not been left without direction. God has spoken through Scripture. That means the Bible is more than inspirational material or a collection of ancient religious thoughts. It is a gift that deserves your attention. Your feelings can be sincere and still mislead you. Culture can be confident and still be wrong. Circumstances can look convincing and still hide the whole picture. God’s Word gives you a fixed place to stand. The goal is not merely to read enough verses to feel spiritual. It is to let Scripture have authority over you, especially when it confronts what you would rather believe or do.
Application Question: Where are your feelings, preferences, or cultural assumptions currently competing with what Scripture says?
